February 2015...
This month we went to a SuperBowl party at Julie's (its becoming a tradition), went to lots of basketball including an out of town trip to Rochester for a tournament, soccer training continued and Macey had her first dance recital of the year, we did Baskets and Bingo at LME and at least ducked into Bingo night at OHE. We checked out one of Ben's hockey games, had a couple of sleepovers with various kids-n-cousins and I played hookie from work to go to skiing with Daniel's class at Welch Village and to help at J's Valentines Day party. Our friends John and Donna adopted a baby boy, and so much more...It was a busy month!
From the Draft folder...Fall 2011...Days 2 and 3...Not so fun.
So...Day 2 drop off was not very fun; poor baby cried and pulled on the door after I left. They said he did okay but he was crying when Jason went to pick him up after 3 hours. Yikes. Today's drop off was better...he settled right down after I left and ate his breakfast. But Jason went by to check on him (there is a monitor in the front entry where you can see the kids and they can't see you) and as opposed to the past two days when he was cheerfully playing each time Jason went to check on him, this time he was standing by the door crying...poor buddy.
NOTE from 2015: What this doesn't say is that the next week when I dropped him off, expecting the tears and screams, he found his seat and waved me out the door, perfectly happy...and after that there were no more tears.

This was in my Drafts folder, I don't know why it was never published...priceless
After the death of a loved one, different people process the information in different ways. Here are some of the things that we did in the days and weeks after my Dad, my kids' beloved PopPop, died.
Daniel to Macey the night we told them about PopPop: "Do you think PopPop's spirit will come get us tonight?" Granny Irene assured them that PopPop was too busy getting into heaven to come and bother them. Later I told Daniel that PopPop would never do anything scary but that he would always be there if Daniel needed help to make the right decision about something.
Daniel to me at the funeral: "I wish PopPop could be here."
Daniel to me during the weekend we buried my Dad: "Well, I just think PopPop is sitting on the beach somewhere."
Daniel to my mom when he talked to her the week after the funeral. We were all home in Minnesota and she was at her home in NC. I could only hear Daniel's part of the conversation but you can probably fill in the blanks in terms of what my mom said. I knew, but Daniel did not, that my sister and brother were both staying with my Mom at her house that particular night. "Grandmom, are you doing okay?" Response from the other end. "Oh. Because it must be lonely there all by yourself with no one there." Response from the other end. "Oh, that's good."
Just what I needed, another reason to start crying again.
This morning when it was snowing like crazy and we had two or three inches on top of the major storm from last weekend that dumped 17-20 inches of snow in our yard the first thing I thought was that I needed to call my Dad and tell him about the additional snow that was falling outside. I believe it will be a long time before I stop thinking those kinds of thoughts.
For Christmas we bought my mom a brand new comforter set: bedspread, bed skirt, pillow shams, throw pillows, the works. It came in a very large box that we wrapped and presented to her at our family Christmas gathering. As my sister Carey was bringing the box to my mom someone said "I wonder what that is!" and Daniel said "Maybe its PopPop!" I have no idea why my sister Carey and I thought it was so funny but both of us about busted a gut laughing at Daniel. Usually in that situation he would renege on his comment because he hates to be laughed at but this time he insisted, even over our hysterics, that "Well, maybe it is PopPop!" I guess Daniel knew what his Grandmom would want for Christmas more than anything else. Oh well, I think she liked the comforter well enough.
