Halloween Traditions

Every Halloween we go out with the Quicks for the Trick-or-Treating.  This year Daniel asked if he could go with his friends instead of with the family and initially I said no...but when it became apparent that they were doing roughly the same circuit as us we let him join them.  Are we that close to them wanting to do their own thing?  Scary.  I suppose Joshua has a way to go yet...

Fall Break 2012

This year we headed to PA and NY.  We spent a couple of relaxing days at Aunt Margie's and a couple seeing the sights in NYC.  Josh came along and spent the time with his Grandmom and Aunt Margie while Kim, Owen and Tyler joined us for the NYC leg of the tour.  It was quite the adventure.

When we left New York, I asked Macey if she liked it and she said, "yeah, it was neat".  I asked her if she wanted to come back again and her response was "Nah, I've done it. I'm good."  Classic.

The counsins got in some football.

Tree Adventures in PA

George, Maggie, Macey, Josh and June had some fun climbing trees in Aunt Margie's yard.

The Met

Legos!!

We all stayed up late putting legos together.  I use the term "we" loosely...I was reading.  Anyways, we stayed up late and the next morning after a restless night (see below re:  sleeping conditions) Daniel was of course up at the crack of dawn asking if he could turn on the light and work on his legos.  I said he could do whatever he wanted...in the bathroom, with the door shut so the light did not wake anyone up.  By the time Kim and I dragged our sleepy selves out of bed all four kids were jammed in the bathroom with legos taking up every square inch of the tiny space...they were in the shower stall, under the sink, everywhere.   Keep in mind the bathroom was barely big enough for them to all fit in, nevermind trying to put various lego sets together.  Probably a memory they will have (and treasure?  maybe) forever.

Central Park

We walked from the Met across Central Park to the metro (oops, subway, metro is DC) so we could ride uptown (or was it downtown?  who can keep track?) to see the staking rink, Macy's and of course, the Lego Store, which was the highlight of our trip. I had flashbacks to two years ago when we went to Chicago and again, lego story, very memorable.  Glad I am taking my kids all these neat places and they are most excited to see something we can get at our local Target.  : )

we went to the M&Ms store in NYC...kids had a blast.  Kim let them each get a 1/4 bag of candy of their choice..not realizing that it was $12/pound.  Sixty some dollars later we left with 4 pounds of candy...delightful.  Another funny story from our trip...wonder where that candy is now...somewhere at Aunt Margie's house, I think.  Hope someone is enjoying it!!!

NY food was a theme for the weekend...we had pizza, bagels, nuts and a great meal at a little mexican place near our hotel...and, well, the traditional tourist food at Ruby Tuesday's in Times Square.   I guess that's not all that new yorky but sort of...in that we were in a hurry and there was no line and we knew the kids would eat it...so maybe it was touristy in that way.

We did a little chillin' in the hotel room in between adventures in NYC.  The room only had one king size bed so Macey got the chair/ottoman combo and cindykimowentylerdaniel took the king size bed.  It was big, but, um, not that big.  Can't say it was the worst night sleep ever but it certainly was not the best either...oh well, we used kim's points (thanks kim!) so it cost us like 4 dollars...not bad for a NYC hotel room for 6!!
