Leo!

It started with a picture of an adorable puppy on the New Leash rescue site of a puppy named "Billy".  Billy's selling points were that his mother was a black lab (a mutt, but she appeared to be mostly lab) and he had a patch around his eye just like our Lanny has.
Then, Macey and I went to the PetCo where the adoptable dogs were hanging out for the afternoon and we met the little guy.  He was sweet, soft and most interested it getting back to lay down with his littermates.  But, he curled up in the round bed just like Lanny does and most interestingly, he had a patch around his tail just like Lanny.  Macey and I were sold.  Still, however, had to convince the boys of the family that a) getting a puppy was a good idea b) getting THIS puppy was a good idea and c) that Lanny would not hate us forever if we brought a puppy home.  So...

The family took a little jaunt down to Cannon Falls to the foster family's house to introduce Lanny to the puppy and to have Jason, Daniel and Josh meet him.  Lanny seemed indifferent, Josh was sold and Daniel much to our surprise was also smitten-though he was still not offering his full support.

Eventually Macey and I wore them down and on Wednesday before Thanksgiving we headed down and picked up our new little guy.  We renamed him Leo and he instantly became part of the family!!

Encore

And then on Wednesday I went back to the theatre to see Hamilton one more time.  It was just as amazing the second time!!

The neat thing about seeing it twice in a row was that I could identify differences between the performances.  I was also able to see and appreciate some of the non-star action and dancing.  At the Tuesday evening performance there was one error (he recovered nicely) and maybe 2 or 3 off script lines.  At the Wednesday matinee the cast was slightly different-whole different George Washington, the guy who played Laurens and Phillip played Lafayette, and there was a lot more ad libbing...maybe 8 or 10 times where the actors went off script.  I was also able to really appreciate the actor who played Madison-he was quite good.  And Jefferson was truly written to be just a little goofy, which you don't get from the cds.  Hamilton was terrific but I could not get past the sense that this was a man playing Lin Manuel playing Hamilton.  Yes, it is Miranda's Hamilton, but it was more than the words and the setting, it was like watching Lin Manuel's idea of Hamilton incarnate.  I loved Burr-Wait for It remains my favorite song.  Angelica, well, she was my least favorite of the performers and seeing her twice did nothing to improve my opinion.  Also, and I know I got this out of seeing it the first time but it was really driven home by the end of the second performance...this is really the Burr show.  Yes, the story is Hamilton's, but Burr really does narrate much of the show and he is central to the story in every single way.  I loved it.  Can't wait to see it again!!

Trinity Church

Trinity Church, buried right in the financial district up the street from the Staten Island Ferry and the Bull of Wall Street, is lovely.  We found Hamilton's grave and that of Eliza, Hercules Mulligan and Angelica.  We very much enjoyed walking around here.

Charlotte Temple's gravesite is also in Trinity Church...if you can't read it, it says, in part "legend has it that the name on this vault stone was carved by a bored stone cutter while working on the church...it is unknown if anyone is interred in the vault beneath the stone"...sounds like the premise for a delightful gothic novel!!

The Show

Hamiiton was a Family Adventure!

We did a lot of walkin'...and some dessert eatin'!!

There was NOTHING wrong with this dessert place!  Table for 5, please!!

Our first adventure out? Piano Bar!

Yes, we went adventuring in a neat building looking for the Chess Store...no one was home but we saw some architecture and interesting "stuff".

We believe that the numbers panning across this building and going Up and Up and Up is the national debt...but not quite sure.  Out and about in NYC...

 The Bull of Wall Street...
 and the Fearless Girl(s)

Yes, we know that we were in NYC. We also know that we wanted to see this movie, so we did.  No regrets.
Times Square...doesn't get much more iconic than this!!
