White House Tour

Carey's sister-in-law Mauren got us a West Wing White House tour. It was soooo cool!!! We saw the Oval Office, the Roosevelt Room, the mess, the door to the Situation Room (not sure why the tour did not extend in there...)...all the neat behind the scenes places. One of the neatest things was seeing the photos lining all the halls which are apparently updated weekly. The iconic photo of the leadership during the bin Laden raid was there and was even more impressive on a large scale then it was in the papers. There was one of Obama playing basketball that was really cool, and a couple of Michelle Obama that were simply stunning. It was a really, really, really neat experience and we were so impressed with the whole thing. Here are some pictures from that night. Notice that there were no kids along...it was an adults only kind of evening, followed by dinner at Georgia Browns which is one of my favorite DC restaurants. The fried green tomatos were still delicious and the atmosphere was festive and fun.

Josh and his cars

Well, DC - sheemcee- Josh liked being with everyone but was just as interested in his cars as the sights. Here he is having a good ole time at Mount Vernon...with his cars.

Mount Vernon

We "did" Mount Vernon one day of our adventure. Oddly, when asked what the kids liked most about the trip to DC, they all said Mount Vernon. Hum. Something to think about. Anyway, it was interesting. The part I was most interested in doing was touring the actual mansion and of course, Josh started acting up while we were in line and by the time we made it across the veranda and into the actual house it had come apparent that taking him though the tour would be pretty dumb. So, Josh and I chilled on the rocking chairs overlooking the Potomac (what a view...old George's family sure had an eye for real estate) while everyone else went through. Oh well, I'll go back another time. In any case, the farm and grounds were really neat and it was a fun adventure. I think Julie and Todd will remember it as the place were I displayed monumental indecision regarding parking places to the tune of other drivers' horns...but we survived.

Mount Vernon (con't)

Picnic with the Tilletts and meeting Baby Arlo!

who is really cute! It was great to meet up with Laura and Scott (see wedding pictures on the blog from April 2010 (or May...not sure when I posted the actual pictures). The little one is adorable (and well behaved, from what we observed) and it was nice to get to know Laura a little better.

Metro, Mint and Museums

We did some wandering around DC one day...the National Mint, the Museum of Natural History, the Mall...good times.
