The Shedd Aquarium
OK, this is probably blasphemy from a tourist to Chicago viewpoint, but this was not my favorite thing we did. I honestly was not that impressed with this aquarium. Maybe I am jaded by having been to the one in Baltimore or maybe I was just tired that day or maybe the kids were tired and were getting on my nerves (nah, not that) ...I thought it was good, but not really worth going all the way to Chicago for. Plus, the food in the cafeteria was awful ...anyway, we had fun, the kids liked it and we checked the box...but I can't say this would be the first place I'd go on a return trip to Chicago.
LEGOMANIA!!!!
Daniel got the Hogwarts Express lego set in Chicago and the night he got it he stayed up until almost midnight putting that thing together. Since then he has played with it every day...he takes it to school for free time, he lets Josh play with it and he just takes the peices apart and the little parts out and has a blast. This thing cost a small fortune (relative to other toys, at least) but he has really enjoyed it so I put it in the "worth it" category.
Hancock Observatory
From high above the City of Chicago, we looked down and marveled...we got there around 5 and there was a big group going in so we left and went for some Chicago style pizza-we got a recommendation from one of the girls who worked there and ended up at a place that was just off the beaten path-not too far out of the way, but not filled with the tourists we had been fighting with all day. It was lovely to put our feet up and be served delicious pizza-yum!!
