Aunt Anne

My Aunt Anne died unexpectedly in July.  Following is what I wrote about her for the funeral:

Anne. Mom. Grandmom. Aunt. She had a million loved ones and she was interested in all that they did. Had a funny story to tell? She'd love to listen and laugh along. Wanted a recipe she had made for some holiday 18 years ago? She'd text it to you. Wondering about the name of a movie you watched together back before VHS was even a thing? She'd recall it and remind you of three other ones too. Anne loved her work. She considered her charges-from the newborn to the weatherworn (throughout her career she worked with the most vulnerable among us) - to be part of her family. She bought them clothes and toys and flowers and made their spaces comfortable and homey. Anne liked adventure and put miles upon miles on her car trooping up and down the eastern seaboard, often stopping for lasagna or scones or cannoli, whatever the treat of the day was, and she would always bring plenty to share. If you called, she answered the phone with her unique voice "Hi there!" and if she missed you, you could count on a call back. She loved the little ones and did not become disinterested just because they grew up. She wanted to know what was going on with you whether you were 2 or 10 or 50. She loved songs and music and knew every Girl Scout Camp song ever voiced around a campfire. She had recently fallen hard for Hamilton. She loved holidays and shopping and there was no one who could light up her life like her grandchildren.
