Swimming at the Hotel
The pictures did not turn out very well but I thought I'd note it anyway. Josh says swimming at the hotel was one of his favorite parts so I had to include them. We drove from Lakeville to Mitchell SD (home of the Corn Palance, and no, we did not make our way to see it) on Wednesday night and then the rest of the way to Mount Rushmore on Thursday. We arrived at the monument around 3:00 in the afternoon. It was really a great day to be there...there were only a handful of people there and while the sky was cloudy, visibility to the faces was terrific. It was a little cool (or cold, or really, really cold, depending on whether you were in the wind or slightly sheltered) but all in all, a good day to visit. The kids were impressed, especially Josh.
Just Hangin' at the Park...
The day we arrived at Mount Rushmore it was cold, cold, cold. There was a bitter wind blowing too. We had not brought coats with us (late October in South Dakota? come on, we're from Minnesota, we don't need no stinkin' coats...)...so the kids doubled up on sweatshirts and we sucked it up. It was certainly bearable, though my decision to wear shorts was questionable. SEVERAL people made comments about the shorts and I continued to stick by my story...it was that, or dig back into the suitcase, and that was not going to happen. Well, so it goes. We probably would have spent more time there and done a hike around the monument but really, it was cold!! We came, we saw, we ran back to the car. All in a good day's work.
