Saint Paul Winter Festival: 2011

We spent a couple of hours in St. Paul last weekend enjoying the northern cultural event that is the St. Paul Winter Festival. It takes place in downtown St. Paul and according to the official website was started in reaction to a non-Minnesotan journalist who
wrote an article (or an editorial...something) declaring that this place was unfit for living in during the winter. The great folks of St. Paul decided to put on a celebration to show the world that there is life in MN during the winter. Now, that fact is still up for debate, but we braved the cold (the VERY cold) day and enjoyed the event. My office is right on the park where part of the event is held and the kids and I enjoyed a picnic lunch of cheese curds, mini-donuts and hot chocolate on the floor of my office while we thawed out after enjoying the ice scultpures.
In any case, here are some pictures of our adventure...the girls posed with Miss Lakeville, the kids in front of the snow wall, kids and then all of us in front of the snow dragons (impressive, no? it was really neat...the artists were out there working on some of them and it was a neat process to watch.
Enjoy!
